FAVORITE SONS & DAUGHTERS
Twin brothers Jonathan and Jonan Hampton-Walton, 14, have earned A and B grades so far this year at Rogich Middle School despite having been diagnosed at a young age with pervasive developmental disorder, an umbrella term for autism. The brothers relocated with their parents from New York last March, where they were enrolled in early intervention classes.
The prospect of going from classes that never had more than eight students to classes with 25 or more students was frightening, but school Principal Suzy Harrison said the boys are doing just fine and "fit right in."
Freddy Collazo, a student at Rancho High School, has been accepted to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Ariz., in the fall.
He will study aeronautical science.
Collazo is the son of Angelica and Wilfredo Collazo of Henderson.
Amanda Monvay, daughter of Allison and Jon Monvay and sister to Sara, celebrated her bat mitzvah Jan. 12 at Temple Sinai in Summerlin.
This was the temple's first bat mitzvah.
Amanda is a seventh-grader at Rogich Middle School, where she maintains a straight-A average in all accelerated classes.
She is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, as well as a cheerleader on the Desert Cheer Xtreme squad and also her school's squad.
She enjoys spending time with her family and shopping.
