The Meadows School eighth-grader Amanda Marks, 13, took the gold medal in the Women?s 14 and Under saber competition on Jan. 27 at the Pacific Coast Section?s South Coast Fencing Tournament in Santa Ana, Calif. She has been fencing for more than five years and won the 2004 and the 2005 Las Vegas Cup in foil and the 2006 cups in foil and saber. In 2006, she was named the Pacific Coast Foil Fencer of the Year for her age group.special to VIEW
