Textbooks proposed for use in Clark County School District classrooms will be available for public review today and Wednesday as part of Nevada's official textbook selection process.
The books will be on display from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the district's Curriculum and Professional Development Center, 3950 Pecos-McLeod, in the curriculum library.
TEACHERS OBTAIN NATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Several Clark County School District teachers obtained a National Board Certification during the past year.
The teachers are Janelle Hopkins from Centennial High School, 10200 W. Centennial Parkway; Jennifer Maher from Brinley Middle School, 2480 Maverick St.; Roger O'Connor from Leavitt Middle School, 4701 Quadrel St.; Kathleen Pasier from Givens Elementary, 655 Park Vista Drive; and Sonja Wooten from Escobedo Middle School, 9501 Echelon Point Drive.
SHADOW RIDGE HIGH CHOIR WINS PROJECT
The Shadow Ridge High School Honor Choir won the 2008 National Anthem Project. The group will receive $1,000 and will perform the national anthem on March 1 at the Runnin' Rebels men's basketball game.

SCHERKENBACH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COLLECTS FOOD
The Scherkenbach Elementary School Student Council collected 10,000 food items that were donated to the Weekend Emergency Assistance Program.

CANCER SOCIETY PROGRAM TO OFFER SCHOLARSHIP
The American Cancer Society's Cancer Survivor College Scholarship Program is designed to help students who have been diagnosed with cancer pay for part of their college tuition.
The possible lifetime award is for up to $10,000 per student, offered in increments of $2,500 per academic year.
Applications from qualified Nevada students are being accepted through Friday and can be obtained by calling 1-866-500-3272.
PROGRESS NOTICES TO BE DISTRIBUTED FRIDAY
In addition to the parent communication system available on school Web sites, progress reports/unsatisfactory notices will be distributed to Clark County School District students on Friday.
If a child is absent from school when the notices are distributed, contact the child's school to make arrangements to receive the notice.
Due to this change of regulation, unsatisfactory notices will not be mailed home this year.
PUBLIC EDUCATION FOUNDATION TO AWARD SCHOLARSHIPS
The Public Education Foundation is offering scholarships to high school seniors planning to continue their education at an accredited college or university.
The scholarships range from $500 to $40,000, and applications must be postmarked by March 7 to be eligible for consideration. Applicants also can deliver their applications to the foundation's office, 3360 W. Sahara Ave., Suite 160, on or before March 7.

VISION SOURCE TO GIVE THREE $1,000 SCHOLARSHIPS
Vision Source is awarding three 2008 graduates of Las Vegas, Henderson or Boulder City high schools with $1,000 scholarships.
The See the Change scholarship rewards students for academic achievement, as well as contributions to community service projects. Students must demonstrate visionary thinking in developing community service-based solutions to health issues that challenge Las Vegas.
In essay format, students will describe what they see as an important health issue and present a community service project that will solve or ease the burden of that health issue.
Applications are available at www.visionsourcevegas.com, through the Clark County School District or at any one of the 10 Vision Source offices.
Applications must be dropped off in person to a local Vision Source office no later than March 14.
