Local author Lynn Crain plans to share tips for writing dynamic love scenes during a meeting with the Las Vegas Writers Group 7 p.m. Thursday in the private meeting room at Sean Patrick's Pub, 8255 W. Flamingo Road. An event fee of $5 will be charged.
Crain's presentation is expected to include a discussion of methods for instilling scenes with emotion and description to draw the reader into the work.

HENDERSON WRITERS ORGANIZE BOOK EXPO
The Henderson Writers' Group plans to hold a book expo from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the 567 N. Stephanie St. Barnes & Noble.
Area authors set to participate include: Dennis Griffin, Anthony Ferri, Gregory Kompes, Jack Miller, Vikkie Vaughan, Lupe Bloch, Roger Storkamp, Michael Hazard, Susan Rainey, Yvonne Cloutier, Gilbert Loy Cook, Ok Soon Schroeder, Inez Gautreau, Stephen Grogan, Jo Wilkins, Richard Draude, Tena Thompson, Morgan St. James, Stephen Nasser, Deborah Wall, Trish Geran and Judi Moreo.
Personal enrichment books will be featured from 10 a.m. to noon, memoirs and historical fictions from noon to 2 p.m., non-fiction and political fiction from 2 to 4 p.m. and science fiction and general fiction from 4 to 6 p.m.
HUGHES BOOK SIGNING SET
Geoff Schumacher, author of "Howard Hughes: Power, Paranoia & Palace Intrigue," will be available to sign copies from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Borders Books, 2190 N. Rainbow Blvd.
Schumacher is the director of community publications for Stephens Media and a weekly columnist for the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
UNIVERSITY LECTURE SERIES TO FEATURE LITERARY TOPICS
UNLV's University Forum lecture series has two literary lectures scheduled for March. William Kittredge, author and producer of "A River Runs Through It;" Annick Smith, author and founding member of the Sundance Film Institute; and Greer Chesher, author of "Heart of the Desert Wild," winner of the Utah Book Award for Nonfiction" are scheduled to participate in a panel discussion titled Writing the West set for 7:30 p.m. March 4 in UNLV's Barrick Museum Auditorium.
The museum also is set to host a presentation titled The Geometries of Fiction, 7:30 p.m. March 13. UNLV English Department Chairman Douglas Unger plans to present 3-dimensional computer graphics designed to represent reader responses to novels.

LIBRARY DISTRICT TO PUT ON ANNUAL BIG READ PROGRAM
The National Endowment for the Arts and the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District are teaming up again to encourage adults to read with The Big Read program.
For the second year, one book has been selected for valley-wide reading and discussion. Last year, residents explored "The Joy Luck Club." This year's book is "The Great Gatsby."
