LIBRARY TO HOST EVENING WITH KAUFMAN AND MACK

Jennifer Kaufman and Karen Mack will be center stage at the Clark County Library Theater 7 p.m. Thursday for a free discussion of their new Delacorte Press novel "A Version of the Truth."

Best friends and co-authors of the best-seller "Literacy and Longing in L.A," Kaufman and Mack are back with the story of Cassie Shaw, a newly widowed 30-year-old facing the work world without a college degree.

Desperate for a paycheck, the dyslexic high school drop out punches up her resume to get a job at an elite university.

Mack, a former attorney, works as a film and television producer. Kaufman was a staff writer at the Los Angeles times.

DAGGAR SEARCH HELPS TO LAUNCH MYSTERY BOOK

Author Stephen Grogan's "Vegas Die" is launching with a mystery within the mystery.

The tale of mobster murder with the mayor as the No. 1 suspect also includes clues to find a dagger hidden somewhere in Las Vegas. Grogan's representatives say the dagger is worth $25,000.

The author plans to sign copies of the book at 2 p.m. March 8 at the Reading Room inside Mandalay Bay; from 4 to 6 p.m. March 15 at the Cheesecake and Crime Bookstore, 10545 S. University lecture series to feature Literary topics

UNLV's University Forum lecture series has two literary lectures scheduled for March. William Kittredge, author and producer of "A River Runs Through It;" Annick Smith, author and founding member of the Sundance Film Institute; and Greer Chesher, author of "Heart of the Desert Wild," winner of the Utah Book Award for Nonfiction" are scheduled to participate in a panel discussion titled Writing the West set for 7:30 p.m. March 4 in UNLV's Barrick Museum Auditorium.

The museum also is set to host a presentation titled The Geometries of Fiction, 7:30 p.m. March 13. UNLV English Department Chairman Douglas Unger plans to present 3-dimensional computer graphics designed to represent reader responses to novels.
