Patrick Buck, 11, a student at Cadwallader Middle School, has won a second-place medal for beginner cruiserweight division in his first Brazilian jiu jitsu tournament.

The Grapplers Quest Tournament was held Dec. 1 at The Sports Center and featured competitors from around the world.

Patrick began training at Fasi Combat Sports only two months prior to the competition. Owner Apollo Sebastian encouraged him to enroll in the tournament.

Patrick will receive his first belt and will be training for his next competition, set for May 3.

He is the son of Timothy and Gina Buck of Las Vegas.

Joseph Buck, 9, a student at Scherkenbach Elementary School, and his football team, the Raiders, have won the Desert Youth Football League of Summerlin Collegiate Division II Championship.

The Raiders played the Hawks at Palo Verde High School Dec. 1, winning 13 to 6.

The team had a seven-game undefeated regulation fall season and a two-game undefeated playoff record.

Joseph is the son of Timothy and Gina Buck of Las Vegas.
