New Vista Community celebrated the opening of a much-needed new building on Jan. 4 at the organization's new headquarters, 5220 W. Charleston Blvd., between Decatur and Jones boulevards.
The organization had grown out of its previous location at 3085 S. Valley View Blvd., and had been in need of a larger space to accommodate its expanding staff and programs.
The new 15,000-square-foot facility not only provides adequate office space, but also provides a larger location for The Emporium, the second-hand store that provides funding for New Vista and also is used as an incubator setting to start new programs and expand upon existing programs.
The Emporium officially opened on Jan. 2, with the completion of the corporate offices set for early March.
"This new building is more than just more space for us, it's a building block in moving forward with all our plans to provide more support services to families and individuals that are intellectually challenged in Las Vegas," said Molly Smith, New Vista event coordinator.
New Vista Community is a Las Vegas-based organization committed to providing the intellectually challenged of all ages with equal opportunities and support.
Services include providing a home-like environment to enable individuals to live an independent, self-determined life, promoting freedom, growth and productivity.
While many New Vista programs, such as the community homes, are based out of the northwest, the organization's new, centrally-located headquarters should allow it to continue to thrive.
"The new location is actually very convenient for its purpose, which is to provide better accessibility for individuals with intellectual challenges and their families," said Michelle Jackson, director of development. "This new location allows New Vista Community to have and provide better access to our communities' needs."
Coming up for the organization is a wine tasting fundraiser in March.
