The Clark County School District Board of Trustees will host a meeting at 4 p.m. on Jan. 24.
CSN REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

UNLV PROFESSOR NAMED PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR
UNLV professor Larry Ashley received the Mel Schulstad Professional of the Year award from the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors. Ashley has more than 30 years of experience in substance abuse and trauma and has a special interest on the impact of war on soldiers worldwide.

The Clark County School District's magnet schools are hosting parent information meetings at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. for elementary students and at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. for secondary students on Jan. 23 at Cashman Center, 850 Las Vegas Blvd. North, and at 6 p.m. for elementary and 7 p.m. for secondary students on Jan. 29 at Durango High School, 7100 W. Dewey Drive.

The Clark County School District, in cooperation with Vegas PBS, will conduct the next School Matters program on Jan. 31. During the live program, school district officials and board members will address topics and respond to questions submitted by viewers.
The show will air from 8-9 p.m. on Vegas PBS, Channel 10, on Cox Cable.

MOJAVE MAX EMERGENCE CONTEST UNDER WAY
The Mojave Max Emergence Contest is under way. Students of Clark County now can enter their guesses as to when the desert tortoise will emerge in spring 2008.
Mojave Max is a live tortoise residing at the Red Rock National Conservation Area Visitor's Center, and his emergence is a good indicator of when spring will arrive in Southern Nevada.
The winner of the contest and his or her class will receive medals, T-shirts, family park passes, a pizza party and a trip to Red Rock National Conservation Area.
