Restaurant, shop offers vegetarian options
Rainbow's End carries items for health-conscious

Though Sam Friedman has spent two years at the health food store and vegetarian cafe that he owns, he can't say how long it has been in business.

Friedman is the current owner of Rainbow's End Natural Foods, 1100 E. Sahara Ave., Suite 101. It has had many owners, and a number of people have told him the place in 30 years old. However, its current home near Maryland Parkway is the second incarnation -- it first opened in Commercial Center.

NEW VISTA COMMUNITY: Home sweet home
Organization committed to helping intellectually challenged opens new building in Spring Valley area

New Vista Community celebrated the opening of a much-needed new building on Jan. 4 at the organization's new headquarters, 5220 W. Charleston Blvd., between Decatur and Jones boulevards.

The group had grown out of its previous location at 3085 S. Valley View Blvd., and had been in need of a larger space to accommodate its expanding staff and programs.

Atlatl Rock offers ancient art, fiery stones

Nevada's first and largest state park, Valley of Fire, is a big draw for Southern Nevadans who come to admire its vibrant red sandstone landscape. The fiery colored formations, a result of trace iron minerals that have oxidized, were created over millions of years, the result of uplifting and faulting, followed by erosion.

Although just driving through the park is well worth a trip itself, there are a few easily accessed stops, which will turn a routine visit into a more rewarding one.

Select students at Desert Rose Adult High School and Career Center are working toward a goal that many in the valley take for granted.

For those in the school's English language learner program, learning to speak English could mean the difference between obtaining employment and not.
