FESTIVAL PLANNED FOR CULLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Culley Elementary School, 1200 N. Mallard St., will host its community festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. The whole family is invited to enjoy games, face painting, balloon artists, dance groups and other entertainment, informational booths and refreshments. For more information, call 229-4829.

SCHOOL DISTRICT TO HOLD PUBLIC INPUT MEETING

The Clark County School District Northwest Region public input meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Jan. 23 at Cimarron-Memorial High School, 2301 N. Tenaya Way.

The public is invited to the meeting, to be held by the district's Attendance Zone Advisory Committee, to evaluate the potential of new schools being opened in the area and the possible re-zoning of area neighborhoods to alleviate overcrowding.

MAGNET SCHOOLS INFORMATION MEETINGS SET

The Clark County School District will host parent information meetings for magnet schools for elementary students at 10 a.m. and at 6 p.m. on Jan. 23 at Cashman Center, 850 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Meetings for secondary students will be held at 11 a.m. and at 7 p.m.

Another meeting for elementary students will be held at 6 p.m. on Jan. 29 at Durango High School, 7100 Dewey Drive, and at 7 p.m. for secondary students.

REGISTRATION OPEN FOR CSN CLASSES

Registration is open through Friday for classes at CSN. Classes begin on Jan. 22. Registration can be conducted at www.csn.edu/admissions. There are three locations in the valley -- 6375 W. Charleston Blvd., 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave., and 700 College Drive.

CCSD BOARD OF SCHOOL TRUSTEES TO MEET

The Clark County School District Board of School Trustees will hold a meeting at 4 p.m. on Jan. 24.

SCHOOL MATTERS TO BE ON VEGAS PBS

The Clark County School District, in cooperation with Vegas PBS, will conduct the next School Matters program on Jan. 31. During the live program, school district officials and board members will address topics and respond to questions submitted by viewers. The show will air from 8 to 9 p.m. on Vegas PBS, Channel 10, on Cox Cable.

UNLV PROFESSOR RECEIVES AWARD

UNLV professor Larry Ashley recently received the Mel Schulstad Professional of the Year Award from the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors. Ashley has more than 30 years of experience in substance abuse and trauma, and has a special interest on the impact of war on soldiers worldwide.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT SUMMIT PLANNED FOR FEBRUARY

Gov. Jim Gibbons, Sen. Bill Raggio, R-Nev., and Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley, D-Nev., will present Nevada's second annual Parent Involvement Summit on Feb. 29 at the Northwest Career and Technical Academy, 8200 W. Tropical Parkway. For more information, call (775) 353-5533.
