FRED COUZENS/VIEWMichael Little, president of a Reno-based company called Landfill Alternative, talked to City Council Jan. 8 about his idea to establish a biomass reduction pilot facility to help reduce the amount of trash going to the landfill, as well as capture methane gas for energy use. His project, estimated to cost about $500,000, could be up and running by the summer. Little said the plant would take in 50 tons of city trash per day, remove the recyclable materials and use as much as 85 percent of the remaining trash to generate energy. Little also would like to use wastewater the city treats and flows into the desert to grow alternative-fuel crops.
