FRED COUZENS/VIEWDeveloper Mike Giroux petitioned the City Council Jan. 8 to include a 0.41-acre piece of city property at 1404 Colorado St. into the 2008 Land Management Plan so he can purchase it and "clean up" the land, since the western edge of his parking lot is on the land. His request was denied. But the next day, the city manager agreed to allow Giroux to file an encroachment permit for the acreage. With commercially-zoned land selling conservatively for $8 per square foot, the cost of the permit is likely to be well under the estimated $143,000 it would have cost to buy the land. Giroux?s request to purchase the C-1 zoned land was denied because the Land Management Plan prohibits the selling of commercial land except in the industrial area.
