CCSD BOARD OF SCHOOL TRUSTEES ELECTS OFFICERS

The Clark County Board of School Trustees elected Mary Beth Scow, who serves District A, as the 2008 board president, a position recently held by Ruth Johnson.

Terri Janison, who represents District E, will serve a second term as vice president.

Carolyn Edwards, who represents District F, was elected board clerk, replacing Scow. Scow joined the board in 1996, and during her time as a trustee, held all three officer positions. Janison joined the board in October 2005. Edwards was elected in 2006.

FOUNDATION DONATES FIRST PORTION OF SCHOLARSHIP

The Epicurean Charitable Foundation of Las Vegas donated the first $4,000 of its $24,000 scholarship donation to the UNLV men's basketball program on Dec. 19.

The foundation will make a $1,000-per-game scholarship contribution to the program in the name of the Runnin' Rebel student-athlete who best exemplifies the competitive spirit and determination in giving UNLV its best chance for victory.

School trustees to meet

The CCSD Board of School Trustees will meet at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

It will meet again at 9 a.m. on Feb. 11 and at 4 p.m. on Feb. 14 and 28.

MAGNET SCHOOLS INFORMATION MEETINGS TO START WEDNESDAY

The CCSD will host parent information meetings for magnet schools for elementary students at 10 a.m. and at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Cashman Center, 850 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Meetings for secondary students will be held at 11 a.m. and at 7 p.m. Another meeting for elementary students will be held at 6 p.m. on Jan. 29 at Durango High School, 7100 Dewey Drive, and at 7 p.m. for secondary students.

SCHOOL MATTERS TO BE ON VEGAS PBS

The CCSD, in cooperation with Vegas PBS, will conduct the next School Matters program on Jan. 31. During the live program, school district officials and board members will address topics and respond to questions submitted by viewers. The show will air from 8 to 9 p.m. on Vegas PBS, Channel 10, on Cox Cable.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT SUMMIT PLANNED FOR FEBRUARY

Gov. Jim Gibbons, Sen. Bill Raggio, R-Nev., and Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley, D-Nev., will present Nevada's second annual Parent Involvement Summit on Feb. 29 at the Northwest Career and Technical Academy, 8200 W. Tropical Parkway. For more information, call (775) 353-5533.
