SPOTLIGHT ON: BASIL 'N LIME

3665 FORT APACHE ROAD, 255-2581

Thai cooking is a combination of culinary art and science, where ingredients are selected for both flavor and herbal remedies. For instance, flavorful basil also is good for indigestion. Lime leaf enhances flavor, while stirring the appetite. Chili adds zest and is good for blood circulation, while garlic, a principal ingredient in all Thai dishes, lowers cholesterol. So, what you eat at Basil 'N Lime is not only good, it's good for you. Featured appetizers are Thai egg roll, marinated fish cakes with chopped lime leaves and curry, chicken or beef satay, papaya salad, beef salad, glass noodle and tofu soup, and hot and sour soup with shrimp, mushroom and lime leaf. Curries (red, green and yellow) are served with steamed rice, and various noodle and rice dishes are house pad Thai, pad kee mao (fried noodles with chili, bell pepper, onion, tomato and basil), sweet sticky rice and the delicious pineapple fried rice. Specialties are lemongrass prawns, seafood combo (shrimp, scallop, squid, mussel and crab), sea bass with black pepper sauce, ginger chicken and mushroom, Thai sweet and sour shrimp, beef asparagus, spicy eggplant with chicken, chili and cashew chicken and king crab sautéed with onion, green onion and celery in curry sauce. Basil 'N Lime is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. -- Jack Bulavsky
