LAMPING CONTROVERSY: Parents fight for zoning
Panel suggests that Sunridge students attend Glen Taylor Elementary

The communities of Anthem Country Club and Sunridge at MacDonald Ranch were at war last week. The rift between the two neighborhoods surrounded the proposed rezoning of Lamping Elementary School, which children in both areas attend.

Since the rezoning was proposed, there has been a slew of e-mails between parents, press releases were sent to the media, and one side even rented a billboard in hopes of persuading people to join their cause.

Council approves church's plans for second facility
Congregation, nearby building owner worked out compromise

The cars circling the parking lot of Henderson City Hall before the year's first City Council meeting on Jan. 8 was only an indication of what was going on inside. Hundreds of residents were seated in the council chambers and a nearby conference room where they could listen to the proceedings.

The large crowd didn't attend to welcome the council back after the holiday break, but to show support for the Church at South Las Vegas, 3051 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway. The church had two appeals to the Henderson Planning Commission's recommendations, a public hearing and a new business item on the agenda.

Mixed Martial Arts fight coming to Vegas
Style is based on Ultimate Fighting, but without the cage

The Ultimate Fighting Championship isn't the only game in town if fight fans want to see a Mixed Martial Arts event.

Bodog Fight and Tuff-N-Uff are sponsoring a championship fighting event at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 1 at Las Vegas Sports Center, located at 121 E. Sunset Road.
