ARTIST RECEPTION

* Brent Sommerhauser's work is on display in an exhibit titled Structuring the Invisible at the Clark County Government Center Rotunda Gallery, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway. An artist reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. during this week's First Friday. The exhibit continues through Feb. 15.

CHILDREN'S ILLUSTRATIONS

* An exhibit featuring the art of children's book author and illustrator Stephen Huneck is being shown inside the gallery at the Las Vegas Library, 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North. The pieces incorporate humor and feature Huneck's wood cut prints. Library hours are 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday-Sunday. 507-3500.

HOWARD HUGHES INTRIGUE

* Veteran journalist Geoff Schumacher, director of community publications for Stephens Media, will talk about his new book "Howard Hughes: Power, Paranoia & Palace Intrigue" at a Nevada State Museum book signing and panel discussion Feb. 5 at 5:30 p.m. The event, to take place at 700 Twin Lakes Drive inside Lorenzi Park, will be moderated by Lynn Zook of Friends of Classic Las Vegas.
