Coordinator spends up to 28 hours a week collecting litter on Mount Charleston

It's a big, dirty job, but Patty Conant is happy to do it.

Conant, who's lived in the Las Vegas area since 1990 and on Mount Charleston for seven years, is charged with litter collection on the mountain, more specifically the eastern portion of the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area.

Vietnam veterans chapter offers unique fellowship in valley

It was established in Las Vegas 26 years ago and has been serving the community ever since. A converted home at 6424 W. Cheyenne Ave. has been its headquarters since 1997.

It may not be the most visible service organization in Southern Nevada, but it's unquestionably unique, and its members are among the most active in the country. The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 17 is the only chapter of the national organization in the area.
