Seven months ago, the last remaining wetlands pond at the southernmost corner of Veterans Memorial Park nearest the intersection of Veterans Memorial Drive and Buchanan Boulevard was lush with water and reeds (above), but now the same pond (right), which was once part of an extensive wetlands project involving the city, the Bureau of Reclamation, the Nevada Division of Wildlife, the Clark County Conservation District, the U.S. Department of Agriculture?s Natural Resource Conservation Service and the National Biological Service, is dry. According to city public works officials, this last pond will suffer the same fate as the four other ponds. Namely, it will be filled in with dirt at a later date.PHOTOS BY FRED COUZENS/VIEW
