RANCHO ALUMNUS SEEKS PHOTOS FOR DVD

Rancho High School alumnus Creel Snider (class of 1960) is seeking photos from the school's 50-year history to create a DVD called "Rancho High - the First Fifty Years." He plans to start editing the video in early November. For more information, contact Snider by e-mail at creelsnider@mac.com.

HOST FAMILIES SOUGHT FOR EXCHANGE STUDENTS

Youth For Understanding is seeking families to host foreign exchange students for the next school year. Participants have their own insurance, spending money, cannot drive and speak English. Families must provide room, board and a safe home environment.

LIT'L SCHOLAR ACADEMY PLANS SUMMER CAMPS

Lit'l Scholar Academy's annual summer camps run through Aug. 22. The camp is divided into two programs, full-day and half-day, is for children 18 months and older. Camps last from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Sessions are available at both of Lit'l Scholar's campuses, 8961 Hillpointe Road and 1951 S. FIFTH STREET SCHOOL STUDENTS SOUGHT FOR REDEDICATION

The city of Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency is searching for students of the Fifth Street School when it was the Las Vegas Grammar School from 1936 until 1966. The agency will recognize these individuals during a rededication event, to be held in the fall to celebrate the building's renovation.

'CHEFCLASS' AIRING THROUGH AUG. 9 ON VEGAS PBS

The Vegas PBS cooking school series "ChefClass" airs on Channel 10 at 3:30 p.m. every Saturday through Aug. 9. The show takes viewers inside The International Culinary Schools of the Art Institutes.

SAFEKEY, THE EDGE OFFER MAIL-IN REGISTRATION

Clark County Parks and Recreation Safekey and The Edge programs are holding mail-in registration through Aug. 7 for before- and after-school recreation programs held at participating elementary and middle school sites. Registration applications will be available at all Clark County Recreation Centers, 12-month Safekey program sites and the Sunset Park Safekey office.

The Edge is an after-school program for middle school students attending Lawrence, Silvestri, Sawyer and Faiss middle schools. Program hours are from school dismissal until 6 p.m. Financial assistance for both Safekey and The Edge may be available to qualifying families through the State of Nevada, Child Care Assistance Program by calling 387-0985.

FOUNDATION TO GIVE OUT AWARDS IN SEPTEMBER

The Public Education Foundation will honor Jan Jones and Brian Cram at its 2008 Education Hero Award Dinner on Sept. 20, at the Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas, 3960 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

Jones, senior vice president of communication and government affairs for Harrah's Entertainment, will receive the Education Hero Award and Cram, former superintendent of the Clark County School District, will receive the Lifetime Education Achievement Award. The dinner is a community event and tickets are available for $750 per person. All proceeds support the foundation's programs and initiatives designed to improve the quality of teaching and learning in Southern Nevada's public schools. BAGS AND GALA TO RESULT IN BOOKS FOR KIDS

For every reusable bag customers use now through Sept. 28, the Summerlin Whole Foods Market, 8855 West Charleston Blvd., will donate a nickel to the Spread the Word Nevada: Kids to Kids book program.

Kids to Kids also is planning its annual Storybook Gala at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 27 at the Venetian. The event, titled "One Million Books, One Million Dreams, One Million Possibilities," will honor the distribution of the nonprofit's one millionth book to at-risk area schools.
