Melons grow well in Nevada

Question: You haven't spoken much about cantaloupes. My cantaloupes do quite well here, and I grow them in pots. I use pots because I can keep the soil pristine so no contaminants from the native soil can affect them.

Melons of many types do well in Southern Nevada.

Melons were a commercial crop in the Moapa Valley for many years. There is still some commercial growing of melons in Amargosa Valley.

Bob Morris is an associate professor with the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension. He can be reached at morrisr@UNCE.unr.edu.
