FAITH LUTHERAN PLANS GOLF CLASSIC

The Faith Lutheran Jr/Sr High School 2008 annual Golf Classic is set for Friday at Palm Valley Las Vegas, 9201 Del Webb Blvd.

FOUNDATION AWARDS SCHOLARSHIP

The Gleaner Life Insurance Society Scholarship Foundation chose University of Nevada, Reno student Ryan Gustafson as the recipient of a $1,000 Gleaner Life Insurance Society Scholarship MasterCard Award. Gustafson is a 2004 Centennial High School graduate.

Band association to sponsor camp

The Southern Nevada Band Association is sponsoring the third annual Summer Concert Band Camp from July 21-25 at Clark High School, 4291 W. Pennwood Ave.

The camp, which is free to all current sixth- through 12th-grade band students, will run from 9 a.m. to noon daily.

TRUSTEE RECEIVES AWARD

The Equity & Diversity Education Department recently presented the Flying Eagle's Award to School Board Trustee Larry Mason for his commitment to all students, with special sensitivity to students of color.

Mason was honored as an exceptional role model and for his support of students whose country and language differ from those of their peers.

FAMILIES NEEDED FOR EXCHANGE STUDENTS

World Experience Teenage Student Exchange is seeking open-minded and caring families willing to open their home to teenagers from other countries. The students are eager to experience daily life in the United States by becoming members of the family and attending local high schools. Students have their own spending money and medical insurance.

SAFEKEY, THE EDGE PROGRAMS HOLD WALK-IN REGISTRATION

Clark County Parks and Recreation's Safekey and The Edge programs will hold walk-in registration now through June 30 for before- and after-school recreation programs held at participating elementary and middle school sites. Registration at participating schools is held in the Safekey area from 7 to 8:30 a.m. and from 3 to 6 p.m.

Safekey is a before- and after-school program sponsored by the Clark County Parks and Recreation Community Enrichment Division. Safekey will be held in more than 70 Clark County School District elementary schools during the 2008-09 school year. The Edge is an after-school program for middle school students attending Lawrence, Silvestri, Sawyer and Faiss middle schools. Program hours are typically from 7 to 8:30 a.m. for elementary students, and from school dismissal to 6 p.m. for both elementary and middle school programs. Students must attend Safekey or The Edge programs at the school they attend.

Financial assistance may be available to qualifying families. Information and applications can be requested directly through the State of Nevada Childcare Assistance Division by calling 387-0985. A complete list of Safekey and The Edge sites, along with additional information, can be found at www.accessclarkcounty.com/parks. Those interested in enrollment can call the Clark County Safekey office at 455-8251.

VEGAS PBS TO AIR COOKING SCHOOL SERIES

The Vegas PBS cooking school series "ChefClass" airs on Channel 10 at 3:30 p.m. every Saturday from now through Aug. 9. The show takes viewers inside The International Culinary Schools of the Art Institutes to learn how to cook like professionals. Each episode features a chef-instructor teaching cooking techniques, such as roasting, grilling, braising and sautéing.
