CONTEMPORARY COLLECTION

* Check out works of contemporary art on loan from some of Southern Nevada's privately held fine art collections in an exhibit titled Las Vegas Collects Contemporary at the Las Vegas Art Museum, 9600 W. Sahara Ave. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. $6 for adults, $5 for senior citizens ages 55 and older and $3 for students ages 13 and older. TALKING GENETICS

* A presentation called Our Heritage and Our Health -- The Importance of Being Informed, will be led by Gary Frohlich, a certified genetic counselor, during the Jewish Genealogy Society of Southern Nevada's monthly meeting at 1 p.m. Sunday at Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave. Frohlich will provide information on the genetic conditions that occur more frequently in Jewish individuals of Ashkenazi descent. 243-2858.

MAKING GIFTS FOR DAD

COOKING FOR A CAUSE

* Get culinary tips from a pro as executive chef Heinz Lauer hosts a cooking class called Ride Around the World at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Las Vegas, 1451 Center Crossing Road.
