DANCE STUDIO PLANS CONCERT

The Backstage Dance Studio will hold its annual concert at 7 p.m. on Sunday in the Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall at UNLV, 4505 Maryland Parkway.

WALNUT PARK OFFERS

SUMMER MOVIE SERIES

The Walnut Summer Movie Series at Walnut Park, 3075 N. Walnut Road in North Las Vegas, continues July 25 with a free showing of "The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep." The movie starts at dusk.

In "The Water Horse," a lonely boy discovers an egg that hatches a Scottish legend. The film is based on a book by Dick King-Smith.

The series wraps up Aug. 22 with a Walnut Park screening of "Ratatouille," winner of the 2008 Oscar in the category of Best Animated Feature.

Those attending film screenings in Walnut Park are allowed to bring blankets and low-back chairs. Snacks and refreshments will be available for sale. For more information, call 455-8402.

YOUNG PEOPLE'S CONCERTS START THIS WEEK AT WINCHESTER

A mother-daughter team known as the Amazing CanDoos brings silly music and puppets to the Winchester Cultural Center Theater Thursday, the first of four events in the 2008 Young People's Summer Concert Series. Shows begin at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the center located at 3130 S. McLeod Drive.

The Amazing CanD oos, who claim to hail from The Land of Wow, weave positive messages into their audience participation performances, which are suitable for all ages. Admission is $3 for everyone.

Other shows in the Young People's Summer Concert Series are the Kid Fiddlers July 10; Jeff McBride's magic show July 23; and singer Amy Lowe performing music, both serious and silly, in the folk tradition Aug. 7. CENTER HOSTS ART EXHIBITION

The works of 20 Las Vegas artists are on display in the biannual Occupied Space exhibition at the East Las Vegas Community Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave.

The center's hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Mondays, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays. The display will be up through May 2009.

The free exhibition features works by Greg Allred, Katelyn Bessette, Mark Brandvik, Randa Bishop, Amanda Farrar, Robert M. Gurn, Merrilee Hort, Bonnie Kelso, Charles Morgan, Dolores J. MUSIC AND MOVIES ARE SET FOR THE DISTRICT THIS WEEKEND

There will be free concerts and movies at the District at Green Valley Ranch, 2240 Village Walk Drive, Friday and Saturday.

Bring blankets and picnic baskets for the Outdoor Picture Show at 8 p.m. at The Green, adjacent to Whole Foods Market. "Shrek the Third" will be shown on Friday, and "Rear Window" will be shown on Saturday. Complimentary popcorn will be provided.

Peter Love & TKO will perform a variety of top 40 music on Friday, and rhythm and blues band Gypsy Nights will perform on Saturday. Both bands will play from 6 to 8 p.m. in The Courtyard.

TICKETS ARE ON SALE FOR JULY CONCERT

The Final Riot Tour 2008 featuring Paramore will be held at 6 p.m. July 29 at the Henderson Pavilion, 200 S. Green Valley Parkway. The concert also will feature guests Jacks Mannequin and Paper Route. Tickets are $25 for lawn seating and $25 for reserved seating. For tickets, call the House of Blues box office at 632-7600.
