Shadow Ridge High School's honor choir received a $1,000 first-place prize on Feb. 20 from Saturn, Mrs. Nevada and the Clark County School District's partnership office.
The group participated in the districtwide National Anthem Project, where it had to teach the words and the history of the national anthem to their peers.
Shadow Ridge is located at 5050 Brent Lane.
CARNIVAL OF CULTURES SET FOR WEDNESDAY
The International Club at Centennial Hills High School, 10200 Centennial Parkway, is holding its Carnival of Cultures fair, celebrating diversity through food, music and fun from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday inside the school cafeteria.

CENTENNIAL TEACHER NAMED ADVISER OF THE YEAR
Centennial High School teacher Michael Collins was named the Region VII High School Adviser of the Year by the National Association of Student Councils. He will be recognized at the National Student Council Conference in June.
EARTH SCIENCE WORKSHOP TO BE AT CHEYENNE HIGH SCHOOL
The Nevada Mining Association and the Nevada Division of Minerals are presenting the 19th annual Southern Nevada Earth Science Workshop from Monday through March 19 at Cheyenne High School, 3200 W. Alexander Road.
The program is open to teachers, librarians, museum directors and other educators.
There will be hands-on activities and demonstrations, including gold-panning, exhibits and a half-day field trip to a working mine or geological interest site.
An optional post-workshop field trip with Earth scientists to Death Valley and Ryan Mine also is available.
Participants can earn one college credit through UNLV's Continuing Education program or one Professional Development Credit through the Clark County School District's PDE Credit program.
Additionally, a Master Teacher program will be offered for those who previously have attended a workshop, and a Geology from the Ground Up class will be offered for beginners.

CSN CULINARY TEAM WINS CHAMPIONSHIP
The College of Southern Nevada culinary hot food team won the 2008 Nevada State American Culinary Federation Championship in late February and will represent Nevada at the ACF Western Regional Conference from April 19-21 in Salt Lake City.
The Meadows school teacher receives award
Rebeeca Reeder-Hunt, a middle school English teacher at The Meadows School, 8601 Scholar Lane, received a $2,000 Teach Award from Best Buy.
VISION SOURCE TO AWARD SCHOLARSHIPS
Vision Source is awarding three 2008 graduates of Las Vegas, Henderson or Boulder City high schools with $1,000 scholarships.
Applications must be dropped off in person to a local Vision Source office no later than Friday. Applications are available at www.visionsourcevegas.com, through the Clark County School District or at any one of the 10 Vision Source offices.
The See the Change scholarship rewards students for academic achievement, as well as contributions to community service projects. Students must demonstrate visionary thinking in developing community service-based solutions to health issues that challenge Las Vegas.
In essay format, students will describe what they see as an important health issue and present a community service project that will solve or ease the burden of that health issue.
