CSN CULINARY TEAM WINS CHAMPIONSHIP
The College of Southern Nevada culinary hot food team won the 2008 Nevada State American Culinary Federation Championship in late February and will represent Nevada at the ACF Western Regional Conference April 19-21 in Salt Lake City.
EARTH SCIENCE WORKSHOP TO BE AT CHEYENNE HIGH SCHOOL
The Nevada Mining Association and the Nevada Division of Minerals are presenting the 19th annual Southern Nevada Earth Science Workshop March 17-19 at Cheyenne High School, 3200 W. Alexander Road. The program is open to teachers, librarians, museum directors and other educators.
There will be hands-on activities and demonstrations, including gold-panning, exhibits and a half-day field trip to a working mine or geological interest site. An optional post-workshop field trip with earth scientists to Death Valley and Ryan Mine also is available.
Participants can earn one college credit through UNLV's Continuing Education program or one Professional Development Credit through the Clark County School District PDE Credit program. Additionally, a Master Teacher Program will be offered for those who previously have attended a workshop, and a Geology from the Ground Up class will be offered for beginners. SEWELL ELEMENTARY RECEIVES DONATION
The Public Education Foundation's literacy initiative, Clark County READS, has partnered with Toyota Financial Services and Toyota Financial Savings Bank, which donated $9,000 to enhance the library of Sewell Elementary, 700 E. Lake Mead Drive.
HENDERSON INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL SPONSORS AWARDS
The Henderson International School is sponsoring the Meritas Awards, a program that grants 20 full-tuition scholarships for high school students entering grades 9-11 from public, parochial or private schools. The scholarships are available for students with strong academic backgrounds and who are skilled particularly in one or more of the following: music, theater, dance, visual arts and athletics.

CORTNEY MIDDLE SCHOOL TO HOLD EMPLOYEE REUNION
Cortney Middle School, 5301 E. Hacienda Ave., will hold an all-employee reunion at 1 p.m. on April 12 at Sunset Park, 2601 E. Sunset Road. VISION SOURCE TO AWARD SCHOLARSHIPS
Vision Source is awarding three 2008 graduates of Las Vegas, Henderson or Boulder City high schools with $1,000 scholarships. The See the Change scholarship rewards students for academic achievement, as well as contributions to community service projects. Students must demonstrate visionary thinking in developing community service-based solutions to health issues that challenge Las Vegas. In essay format, students will describe what they see as an important health issue and present a community service project.
