Marché Bacchus in Desert Shores may be nestled in an off-the-beaten-path residential area, but it has a draw all its own.

The eatery enjoys roughly 200 feet of lakefront access and takes advantage of it year round.

The waters of Lake Jacqueline lap at the rocks nearby, and a double-arched rock bridge acts as a sentry to the next lake. It's not uncommon for patrons at the eatery, located at 2620 Regatta Drive, Suite 106, to see ducks swim by and boaters glide across the lake.

Tex and Gidget Severance, retired area residents, have been frequenting Marché Bacchus since 2001.

"The patio is great, so lovely," said Gidget Severance. "It's so un-Vegas. You think you're somewhere else."

Another loyal patron, Scott Harris, a wine educator, said the lake is "a major part of the ambience. It's one of the few places in Las Vegas where you can eat on real water."

Marché Bacchus uses protective plastic sheeting and propane heaters in winter and air-conditioning units in summer to make patio dining a year-round option for patrons. It opened as a wine store and cold deli in 2000 and expanded to add a bistro in 2003.

Marché Bacchusis a French name that means wine market. Garden doors, wrought-iron carriage lanterns and row after row of wine crates create a European interior atmosphere.

Christoff Ithurritze, co-owner and executive chef of the venue, comes straight from his association with Wolfgang Puck. His menu features European selections like veal Milanaise, vrees de la mer and escalope de saumon dijonaiase.

Family physician Govind Koka, who lives and practices in Green Valley, drives more than 20 miles each way to eat at Marché Bacchus every week.

"The osso bucco is delicious," he said.

Dinner entrees start at $15. Lunch selections include quiche Lorraine and begin at $9.

Sandwiches, including a lobster avocado croissant, run about $9.

The retail wine section carries 950 different labels. Patrons can order wine by the glass.

Marché Bacchus occupies 3,700 square feet, with seating for 189 diners. It can accommodate private parties of up to 80 people.

"Would it be better if we were on a nonresidential street?" said Wyatt. "Yeah, it'd be nice to get drive-by traffic, but at the same time, we wouldn't have this type of environment. We've got the trifecta here. We've got a beautiful setting, excellent wine selection and fantastic food."
