Question: While I appreciate the fact that the city and county have departments responsible for covering the unsightly graffiti that pops up on our subdivision walls more and more these days, I am curious as to why they seem to have such a hard time matching the paint or airbrushing it so that it blends in a bit. My subdivision walls at Rainbow Boulevard and Vegas Drive look like a patchwork quilt. Why can't they sandblast the graffiti away?

According to Cindy Lucas, a supervisor with Clark County Graffiti Abatement, sandblasting is far too expensive to be feasible. As far as the "patchwork" effect of cover-up paint you're seeing on your community's walls, Lucas said, "When you see that patchwork look, it's not done by us. Many times, in an effort to cover graffiti quickly, people will use their own paint to cover neighborhood walls, or they may get paint from us but use the wrong color or painting technique. We have seven different colors of paint, and we try to make as close of a match as possible."
