COURSE TEACHES TEENS BABY-SITTING SKILLS

Teens can earn babysitter certification during a three-day course from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Monday through March 26 at the Parkdale Community Center, 3200 Ferndale St. The course is $2.

The Babysitter Certification Class will be taught by Zory Caldera, who will instruct youth ages 12 and older on the responsibilities of babysitting, crisis and emergency response training and abuse recognition.

ART OF THE HOPI to be displayed

An exhibit of Hopi wicker, coiled baskets, hand-formed pottery, katsina dolls and overlay jewelry will be celebrated with a First Friday reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on April 4, inside the Clark County Government Center Rotunda, 500 Grand Central Parkway.

DIVE INTO A CLARK COUNTY SUMMER POOL JOB

The Clark County Parks and Recreation Department's aquatics program is recruiting individuals ages 15 years and older to work as lifeguards, water safety instructors, cashiers and pool management staff for the summer season.

The county has 12 pools throughout the valley. Facilities will open to the public beginning on Memorial Day weekend and will remain open through weekends in September.

Lifeguard training classes are available during March, April, May and June.

Early enrollment is recommended because training classes fill up quickly as summer approaches. Information on class dates and locations is available by contacting the Seasonal Aquatics Office at 455-8508, the Desert Breeze Aquatic Office at 455-7798, option 2, or on the department's Web site.

Applications can be picked up at the Aquatics Office, 5800 E. Flamingo Road, 455-8508; and at the Desert Breeze Aquatic Office, 8275 Spring Mountain Road, 455-7798.

ENJOY AN EGGSTRAVAGANZA

Grace Baptist Church plans to host its first Eggstravaganza for the Sunrise community from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 22 at Hickey Elementary School, 2450 N. donate gently used prom dresses

The Jessica McClintock store at the Fashion Show mall is accepting gently used dresses for the Las Vegas Prom Closet, a nonprofit organization based at the Andre Agassi Boys & Girls Club, 800 N. Martin L. King Blvd. The group provides complimentary dresses and accessories for local teens who would otherwise be unable to purchase new clothing for their proms.

The store will be collecting dresses for the Las Vegas Prom Closet at the mall through March 29 and is offering a 15 percent discount on any new dress purchase.

EXHIBIT LOOKS AT LANDSCAPES

The Las Vegas Springs Preserve presents an exhibit by fine art photographer Nicholas A. Price.

HELLDORADO DAYS HISTORY SEMINAR PLANNED

Participants can learn about the history of Helldorado at a seminar from 7 to 8:30 p.m. May 2 at the Springs Preserve's ORIGEN Experience theater.

Reservations are required. The cost is $12 for nonmembers, $10 members and $6.50 children ages 5 to 17. Students with ID pay $10. The Springs Preserve is located at 333 S. Valley View Blvd. For more information, call 822-7786.

LODGE TO MAKE DONATION

The Clark County Lodge No. 96 of the Knights of Pythias plan to make a donation to the Child Life program at UMC.

Lodge members are working with Child Life specialist Cathy Coleman to purchase toys, movies, games and crafts to occupy children during hospital stays.

The group also gives out two scholarships to local high school seniors invovled in the Boy Scouts of America.

MORMON FORT TO PAY TRIBUTE TO NEVADA STATEHOOD

Historian Michael Green will present the prologue to a re-enactment of President Lincoln's and Secretary of War Charles A. Dana's conversation regarding Nevada's statehood and the end of the Civil War.

The event is scheduled for 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 18, and noon to 1 p.m. April 19 at the Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historical Park, 500 E. Washington Ave.

Live choir music will be performed during the event, sponsored by Friends of the Fort to benefit the hungry. Lincoln and his wife will exit the Old Fort in a 1860s carriage.

A $1 entrance fee to the park includes all featured programs for adults. Children under 12 are free. For more information, call 486-3511.

SAKSHI ARATHI SCHOOL OF INDIA DANCE TO PERFORM

The Arathi School will perform the contemporary dance and dramatic production "Sakshi."

The performance takes place at 3 p.m. April 5 at the Reed Whipple Cultural Center, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

The folkloric love story is a celebration of nature's harmony and need for balance, touching on Indian philosophy and tradition.
