PROFICIENCY EXAM SET FOR APRIL 1

All Clark County School District high school sophomores, as well as non-proficient juniors and seniors, will take the Nevada High School Proficiency Exam on April 1.

All students must pass this test to earn a high school diploma.

To help prepare for the math portion of the exam, students can use an online tutorial at www.mathtest.ccsd.net.

BANK GIVES BOOKS TO MACK MIDDLE SCHOOL

City National Bank has partnered with Mack Middle School, 4250 Karen Ave. The bank donated 500 books, 300 comic books, furniture and $1,000 to the school and its library as part of the partnership.

ACADEMY TO HOST BOOK FAIR

International Christian Academy, 8100 Westcliff Drive, will host a Book Fair for Nevada Reading Week through Thursday. Many books will be available for purchase.

The public is welcome. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

EPICUREAN CHARITABLE FOUNDATION DONATES TO UNLV

The Epicurean Charitable Foundation of Las Vegas presented a $24,000 check to UNLV men's basketball on March 8.

Over the course of the season, the foundation has awarded a $1,000-per-game scholarship to the program. The donations have assisted men's basketball with scholarships and academic assistance support.

DEL SOL TO HOST RENAISSANCE FAIRE

Del Sol High School, 3100 E. Patrick Lane, will hold its second annual Renaissance Faire on Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

HOST FAMILIES FOR STUDENTS SOUGHT

The STS Foundation, a nonprofit student exchange organization, is seeking host families for international exchange students studying in Las Vegas for the 2008-09 school year. A host family must provide a separate bed, family meals and a safe environment.

CORTNEY MIDDLE SCHOOL TO HOLD EMPLOYEE REUNION

Cortney Middle School, 5301 E. Hacienda Ave., will hold an all-employee reunion at 1 p.m. on April 12 at Sunset Park, 2601 E. Sunset Road.

The event is open to all staff members who have worked at the school since its opening 10 years ago.

The cost is $10 per person, and children younger than 10 are free. The school will provide food.
