LITERARY LAS VEGAS
When comedy magician Mac King isn't wowing his audiences at Harrah's, he's encouraging literacy in readers of all ages, especially kids.
In 2004, King and his cousin, cartoonist Bill King, teamed up to create the nationally syndicated comic strip "Mac King's Magic in a Minute."
In 2007, the duo expanded their partnership to launch the "Mac King's Magic in a Minute Great Big Ol' Book-O-Magic: A Complete Magic Kit in a Book." The book is packed with easy-to-reproduce tricks illustrated by comics. A live-action instructional DVD is included.
For National Reading Month, Mac King plans to sign books and put on a magic show from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the 8915 W. Charleston Blvd. Barnes & Noble. In addition, the magician/author is promoting a Spread the Word Nevada: Kids to Kids book drive throughout the month of March. As part of the promotion, in exchange for the donation of a new or gently used book for ages 4-12, Sammy's Woodfired Pizza customers will receive a free Messy Sundae certificate through Monday.
