CITY COUNCILMAN TO HOST TOWN HALL MEETING

Ward 2 Las Vegas Councilman Steve Wolfson will host to a town hall meeting and information fair at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center, 101 Pavilion Center Drive.

The event will include an identity theft prevention presentation and information tables featuring a variety of local organizations, including Republic Services, Aztec Communications, Habitat for Humanity, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Metropolitan Police Department, SolarGenerations and International Suicide Prevention.

City departments also will be on hand to provide information on programs and services. Las Vegas Fire & Rescue will be offering free blood pressure checks.

In addition, residents are encouraged to bring any documents they need shredded or items they would like to donate, as Opportunity Village will be on site with its confidential shredding service and a donation truck.

Also, the Blind Center of Nevada will be accepting donations of old computers, monitors and printers.

Special showing of kids' movie set

Fathom Events has scheduled a special theater showing of "The Zula Patrol: Animal Adventures in Space!" at 10 a.m. on Saturday at two area theaters -- Village Square Stadium 18, 9400 W. Sahara Ave., and Santa Fe Station 16, 4949 N. Rancho Road.

The movie is rated G. Tickets for the one-time-only event are available at presenting theater box offices and at www.FathomEvents.com.

GROUP TO RAISE FUNDS FOR MUSIC PRESERVATION

The Jester Hairston Music Association Inc. plans a fundraising concert from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Family Music Center, 8125 W. Sahara Ave., Suite 210.

The Jester Hairston Singers will be directed by Clair Hart.

The association is dedicated to the preservation and advocacy of music by black composers.

FREE WORKSHOP TO FOCUS ON SLEEP PROBLEMS

The Foundation for Wellness Professionals plans a free workshop titled Natural Solutions to Sleep Problems from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on April 1 at the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave.

HEALTH DISTRICT BOOSTS IMMUNIZATION FEES

The Southern Nevada Health District announced that it has increased its administrative fee for immunizations.

The new fee has increased to $25 for two or more vaccines per child.

The administrative fee for one vaccine per child remains the same, at $16. Some vaccines might require an additional fee.

RECTREK PROGRAM REGISTRATION TO BEGIN

Walk-in registration for RecTrek, Clark County Parks and Recreation's school break program, begins on Monday.

The program, set for June 9 through Aug. 22, is meant to offer a safe, fun environment for children ages 6 to 12. It offers arts and crafts, theme projects, sports, games, field trips, free time on the playground, theater, movies and science projects. Activities vary by recreation center.

RecTrek is available from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, with the exception of the Fourth of July. It takes place at various Clark County recreation centers, including Desert Breeze, 8275 Spring Mountain Road.

The cost is $65 per week, or $14 per day, per child. Families with three children are eligible for a 50 percent discount for the third child for the weekly rate. Field trips may incur an additional fee.

CORDON BLEU COLLEGE FACULTY MEMBER COOKS UP WIN

Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Las Vegas announced that Rebecca Peizer, chef and faculty member, was recognized as the winner of the Taste of Elegance Pork Board competition at the Food Educators Network International's 10th annual FENI Educators Summit, held Feb. 21-23 in Las Vegas.

Peizer competed against eight local chefs. She received a $1,000 cash prize and the opportunity to compete in the national competition, scheduled for May in San Diego.

SUNDAE OFFERED IN EXCHANGE FOR KIDS' BOOKS

Comedian magician Mac King and Sammy's Woodfired Pizza have joined together to support Spread the Word Nevada: Kids to Kids during Mac King's March Book Drive for the month of March.

The promotion encourages Sammy's Woodfired Pizza patrons to bring in new or gently used children's books targeting ages 4 to 12. Anyone who donates will receive a certificate for a free giant Messy Sundae.

COUNTY SUMMER JOBS UP FOR GRABS

The Clark County Parks and Recreation Department's aquatics program is recruiting individuals ages 151/2 years and older to work as lifeguards, water safety instructors, cashiers and pool management staff for the summer season.

The county has 12 pools throughout the valley. Facilities will open to the public beginning on Memorial Day weekend and will remain open through weekends in September.

Lifeguard training classes are available during March, April, May and June.

Early enrollment is recommended because training classes fill up quickly as summer approaches. Information on class dates and locations is available by contacting the Seasonal Aquatics Office at 455-8508, the Desert Breeze Aquatic Office at 455-7798, Option 2, or on the department's Web site.

Applications can be picked up at the Aquatics Office, 5800 E. Flamingo Road, 455-8508; and at the Desert Breeze Aquatic Office, 8275 Spring Mountain Road, 455-7798.

NDOT OUTREACH OFFICE OPENS

The Nevada Department of Transportation's Southern Nevada Public Outreach Office has opened at 3828 Meadows Lane, near Valley View Boulevard.

It is intended as a public information hub to provide information on major projects in Southern Nevada. It will include project maps, time lines, fact sheets, animations and progress updates. Staff members will discuss issues, take comments and answer questions.

The office is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m.-noon on Fridays.
