Representatives from various agencies that serve the community, such as Family Promise and Lutheran Social Services of Nevada, will be represented at the event. Face painting, snow cones and cotton candy will be available.

TOP CHEF TO LEAD COOKING CLASS
Executive chef Heinz Lauer plans to host Ride Around the World, a cooking class, at 9:30 a.m. on June 14 at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Las Vegas, 1451 Center Crossing Road.
The class will feature contemporary and traditional cooking techniques and will benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.

MEETING TO ADDRESS PLANNED CITY PROJECT
The city of Las Vegas has planned a neighborhood meeting for 6:30 p.m. on June 10 at the Centennial Hills Community Center, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive.
The topic will be the Washburn-Alpine Ridge project, a city industrial facility proposed for the area at West Ann Road and the Las Vegas Beltway.

STORE TEAMS WITH CLUB TO DONATE SHOES
Desert Birkenstock Comfort Shoe Stores and Yaleet Inc., distributors of Naot footwear, teamed up with the Las Vegas Strip Kiwanis Club to donate over 150 pairs of shoes to three local charities.
Between May 17 to 24, residents of Westcare Women's Shelter, women from the CSN Re-Entry Program, and residents of the Las Vegas Housing Authority's Vera B. Johnson Complex were presented with new shoes. The Summerlin-area Birkenstock store is at 2192 N. Rainbow Blvd.

GIRL SCOUTS DONATE COOKIES TO U.S. TROOPS
On April 26, the Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada donated 11,220 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. This is the third consecutive year for the effort and the largest to date, according to organizers. Girl Scouts of Frontier Council is located at 2941 Harris Ave.
The Nevada Benefits Foundation covered the shipping costs and helped coordinate the effort. Nevada Benefits relied on the support of other local businesses.
The Nevada Benefits Foundation is a nonprofit organization created to support U.S. troops and their families. To date, it has raised over $1,164,512 through its rallies, Defending Freedom wristbands fundraising, and its Web site at www.defendingfreedom.net.
CELL PHONES FOR SOLDIERS SETS '09 GOAL
Cell Phones for Soldiers collects and recycles mobile phones and uses the proceeds to buy free phone cards for U.S. military personnel and their families.
The group has set a goal of collecting 1.8 million devices by Earth Day 2009.
AT&T supports the charity's recycling through more than 2,000 AT&T stores across the U.S. Since AT&T launched its support, the company also has donated more than 60,000 prepaid phone cards -- valued at more than $500,000 -- to the soldiers.
