Jodi Pham, a seventh-grader at Our Lady of Las Vegas School, 3046 Alta Drive, was the Southern Nevada regional winner of the Weigand Sun Safety Program poster contest presented by the Nevada Cancer Institute. The competition was held in schools for grades kindergarten through eighth in northern and southern Nevada to help students learn about sun safety practices.
VEGAS PBS TO AIR COOKING SCHOOL SERIES
The Vegas PBS cooking school series "ChefClass" airs on Channel 10 at 3:30 p.m. every Saturday from now through Aug. 9.
The show takes viewers inside The International Culinary Schools of the Art Institutes to learn how to cook like professionals.
Each episode features a chef-instructor teaching cooking techniques, such as roasting, grilling, braising and sautéing.
PARTNERSHIP GIVES OUT INSPIRATION AWARDS
The Nevada Partnership for Inclusive Education held the Inspiration Awards dinner earlier this month to honor public schools that excel in meeting the needs of Clark County's diverse student population. Seven schools received awards.
Cozine Elementary School, 5335 Coleman St., and Greenspun Junior High School, 140 N. Valle Verde Drive, each received Platinum awards of $25,000. Guy Elementary School, 4028 La Madre Way, received the Gold Award of $15,000. Orr Middle School, 1562 E. Katie Ave.; Thompson Elementary School, 7351 N. Campbell Road; and Libery High School, 3700 Liberty Heights Ave., each received $10,000 Silver awards, and Martha King Elementary School, 888 Adams Blvd., received the $5,000 Bronze Award.
An additional 57 schools that demonstrated best practices each received a $1,500 grant.
CAMP INVENTION SET FOR JUNE
Camp Invention is planned for June 9-13 at Richard Bryan Elementary School, 8050 Cielo Vista Ave., and from June 16-20 at Lummis Elementary School, 9000 Hillpointe Road.
