Mornings with Mari Book Club meets at 10 a.m. the third Saturday of each month at the 8915 W. Charleston Blvd. Barnes & Noble. On June 21, the club plans to discuss Lisa See's "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan."
The store's Best Book You've Never Read group meets the second Sunday of the month at 7 p.m. On June 8, the club plans to discuss "In the Garden of Iden" by Kage Baker.
Harry Reid to promote new release, 'the Good Fight'
A book event for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's "The Good Fight" is scheduled for 1 p.m. today at the 8915 W. Charleston Blvd. Barnes & Noble.
The book, written with Esquire magazine executive editor Mark Warren, spans from Reid's childhood in Searchlight to his service in Washington, D.C.
AUTHOR ENCOURAGES GHOST TOWN EXPLORATION
Learn more about desert history, 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, when the Clark County Library hosts Daytripping Through The Desert: Ghost Towns, Mining Camps & Death Valley, a free meet-the-author event featuring author/publisher Stanley Paher.

AUTHOR'S SYMPOSIUM PLANNED
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, in partnership with the Las Vegas African American Authors Club, is putting on an Author's Symposium beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the West Las Vegas Library, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd. Scheduled presenters include Pamela Samuels-Young, author of "In Firm Pursuit" and "Every Reasonable Doubt"; Martha Tucker, author of "The Mayor's Wife Wore Sapphires"; Marla Everson, author of "Fool Me Once and Shame on Me"; and Caarne Elliott, author of "The Gospel According to My Hair: Spiritual Growth on the Waves of New Growth."

JOIN LIBRARY'S CLUB READ
Kids can win a mood pencil, a children's museum pass or a gold medal through the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District's summer reading program. Sign-ups at all branches begin Sunday, and activities continue through July 31. Participants log in books read and compete for chances to win four round-trip tickets from Southwest Airlines.

CELEBRATE BIRTHDAYS AMONG CHILDREN'S BOOKS
The Neverending Story children's bookshop now offers birthday parties.
Parents can select the do-it-yourself option, with room rental only, or they can go with a hosted party, which can include decorations, storytime and crafts. Prices begin at $50 for the do-it-yourself option and $150 for a hosted party. For details, call 869-8943.
BUS BOOK PROMOTION TO INCLUDE ELVIS WEDDING
Doreen Orion is hitting the highway to Las Vegas to promote "Queen of the Road: The True Tale of 47 States, 22,000 Miles, 200 Shoes, 2 Cats, 1 Poodle, a Husband, and a Bus With a Will of Its Own."
The book shares the adventures of Orion and her husband, Tim, traveling the country in a 340-square-foot converted bus.
In Las Vegas, the couple tackled every roller coaster and were remarried on the bus by "Elvis."
Orion is scheduled to talk about her book on 88.9 KNPR-FM's "State of Nevada" on June 3.
She's planning to host an Elvis wedding at her book signing 7 p.m. June 4 at the Town Square Borders, 6521 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

POLICE OFFICERS TELL 'TRUE BLUE' TALES
Edited by the Metropolitan Police Department's Lt. Randy Sutton, "True Blue: To Protect and Serve" is a compilation of 61 true police stories written by officers from all over the country.
Sutton plans to sign copies of the book at 7 p.m. June 5 at the 2190 N. Rainbow Blvd. Borders.
Sutton released his first "True Blue" book as a fundraising effort after Sept. 11. A portion of proceeds from the new book will be donated to the National Officer's Memorial Fund.
