VILLAGE OF CENTENNIAL SPRINGS: Still growing
Year-old, mixed-use development continues to open new businesses despite the economy

It was about a year ago when the first business opened at the Village of Centennial Springs, the mixed-use development at the corner of Farm and Tule Springs roads. The popularity of the shopping and dining destination, with its nostalgic Main Street-style design, has grown slowly since then, and although it might not yet be the bustling community hub it was intended to be, there are many businesses open now and more on the way.

"I believe it's moving forward, even if the feel of the place isn't quite there yet and it's not growing at the speed we'd like it to," Jason Cheek said. Cheek and his wife, Amanda, own Amanda LaVoy's Flower Boutique, which opened in the Village in July. "It would definitely help if there were more tenants, but what are you going to do? We've done pretty good so far."

Santa Fe patrons plan to remain true
Opening of Aliante Station will not affect business, general manager says

About 6 miles from Santa Fe Station, the Aliante Station casino will open today, and Jay Amick couldn't care less.

The 59-year-old retiree lives "right on the border of Las Vegas and North Las Vegas" and has been coming to Santa Fe Station, 4949 N. Rancho Drive, a couple of times every week for a few years.
