CIVIL WAR DAYS: A trip back in time
More than 3,000 people get a look of what life was like in the 1860s

The expansive desert against the red rocks of Spring Mountain Ranch State Park set the perfect backdrop for the third annual Civil War Days over the Nevada Day weekend.

About 3,000 people strolled through the park to get an up-close look at what life was like during the Civil War. About 300 people camped out through the weekend, dressed in period garb and took on roles from the 1860s.

Young artist uses Renaissance techniques to paint
Man says others today are missing out on history's great skills

There are not many men and women in their early 20s who can keep their eyes open through an art history class. There are even less who study it relentlessly for fun.

Donovan Fitzgerald is one of the few. Since he was a kid, he has been infatuated by artists throughout history, particularly Renaissance masters. While many young artists today are lured to modern and graphic art, Fitzgerald said they are missing out on the skill put in place by history's greatest artists.
