A TALE OF TWO HOSPITALS: The other approach
Hospitals serving Boulder City, Mesquite view health care from different perspectives

By FRED COUZENS
VIEW STAFF WRITER

MESQUITE -- Boulder City Hospital and Mesa View Regional Hospital in Mesquite are similar in many ways -- the number of acute-care beds, the number of admissions last year, billed charges and operating revenue after deductions in 2006 -- but they're unlike in two key respects. One difference is that Boulder City Hospital's local population base has grown less than 5 percent in eight years, while Mesa View's shot up 60 percent. Also, BCH is a nonprofit corporation, whereas Mesa View is a private, corporate-owned hospital in business to make a profit.

BCH officials have said that one of the last options to be considered if local residents reject establishing a hospital tax district on the Nov. 4 ballot, or any future ballot, is a buyout and takeover by a private hospital corporation.

Church gets ready for annual rummage sale event
By FRED COUZENS
VIEW STAFF WRITER

Country Store, the community event that financially aids religious and mission programs of Grace Community Church, is collecting items for the city's largest rummage sale that runs for two days, starting Oct. 17.

"We'll finish up receiving items at the Park Street storage building Oct. 6, but we'll keep on accepting things here at the church after that," said Don Walker, chairman of this year's event. "We'll receive donations at the back of the church or pick up items at a donor's residence, but they'll need to call the church at 293-2018 to make arrangements first."
