Earlier this year, Greg Danz went before the North Las Vegas Planning Commission with variance requests for his property, Broadacres Swap Meet, 2930 Las Vegas Blvd. North, and the requests were unanimously denied.

"We wanted to make improvements to the property in the form of an entertainment area and a few other requests," Danz said. "But because the market is more than 30 years old, it doesn't conform to city code. It out-dates the code. The issue was that they wanted us to conform, but doing so would have cost 350 vendors their jobs."

North Las Vegas to try out new recycling program
Certain neighborhoods will receive two 96-gallon trash carts

A pilot recycling program recently approved by the North Las Vegas City Council will be one of the subjects of several upcoming town hall meetings.

The recycling program will allow for specific neighborhoods to be outfitted with two 96-gallon trash carts to be picked up weekly. City officials are working with Republic Services of Southern Nevada to identify homeowners associations that may be interested in participating in the program, as well as with representatives from more mature areas of the city where such groups may not be present.
