LOCAL AUTHOR NAMED A MOONBEAM AWARD FINALIST
Jorge Betancourt Polanco's first book, "Dreamygirl's Field of Wishes," is one of five finalists in the Spanish language category for the Independent Publishers Association's Moonbeam Awards for 2009.
The gold, silver and bronze winners will be announced in January at the American Library Association's annual conference in Denver.
SUMMERLIN PHYSICIAN'S BOOK FINALIST FOR ARIZONA AWARD
Summerlin-area resident Leonard Kreisler's "Persons of Interest" is one of four finalists in the Unpublished Novel Category of the Arizona Authors Association's 2008 Literary Contest.

BOOK FESTIVAL TO FEATURE LOCAL AND NATIONAL AUTHORS
The Vegas Valley Book Festival is set for Nov. 6-8.
Festival highlights include literature panels, a Local Authors' Expo from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Fifth Street School, at Lewis Avenue and Fourth Street, and the Target Children's Book Festival, set for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 8 outside the Fifth Street School in the Centennial Plaza.
The Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road, will host a comics expo from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 8.
First Friday galleries are expected to get into the act with exhibitions on the illustrated word and slam poetry performances.
