Henderson keeps growing, and so does its need for medical care.

Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada opened its second Henderson facility in August at 1505 Wigwam Parkway, Suite 130.

"We were busting at the seams, so we opened this office," said Dr. Mary Ann K. Allison.

Allison moved to the valley in 1994 and said she was the first oncologist to have a full-time office in Henderson.

Although there are eight Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada offices in the valley with 25 physicians, Allison said it is better for patients when the oncologists stay at a particular location.

"It's a very serious disease," she said. "A lot of what we do is building a rapport."

The new medical office has more than 9,000 square feet of exam rooms, offices, lab and a 16-chair chemotherapy room that looks out onto the Strip.

Although patients choose facilities for their convenience and services and not the view, Dr. Anthony V. Nguyen said the soothing room can help patients get through a tough time.

Some patients and their families visit the chemotherapy room two to three times a week for up to 18 weeks.

Allison said they chose to have the new center near Stephanie Street and the Las Vegas Beltway because it's well-positioned, accessible and in an area of town that hasn't been served before. Allison said she goes to Boulder City once a week to meet with patients, but this is the closest location for residents who need chemotherapy.

The center gives patients access to multiple services, including chemotherapy, medical oncology, laboratory and social work.

"Expanding our services in Henderson continues our company's growth and allows us to provide more residents with expert medical care right around the corner," said James Kilber, executive director of CCCN.

Allison and Nguyen are the only doctors at the new center, but there is room for two more. There also are 24 other medical professionals in the office.

Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada has a group of medical, pediatric and radiation oncologists. The radiation oncology services offered by the group are accredited by the American College of Radiology. There is a specialized physician and nursing staff, and the centers offer sophisticated diagnostic tools, the latest advances in cancer treatment, a full range of innovative, exclusive services and research-based care.

Physicians are board-certified in the fields of medical oncology, hematology, pediatric oncology and radiation oncology.

The group comprises 17 medical oncologists, five radiation oncologists and three pediatric oncologists.

Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada is affiliated with US Oncology, the largest network in the nation treating cancer patients.

The association provides practice physicians with the opportunity to confer and consult with more than 1,200 physicians nationwide regarding patient care and research protocols.

CCCN also is affiliated with the University of California, Los Angeles, which allows patients to participate in clinical trials developed by UCLA faculty while remaining in Southern Nevada.
