Liberace Piano Contest Winners
For the past two months, the Liberace Museum, 1775 E. Tropicana Ave., has hosted its annual piano competition. Eleven finalists, from ages 6 to 68, performed in the finals on Sept. 21. Winners of this year's contest were Christopher Joel Carter, above, 26, of Albertville, Ala., showmanship-professional; Ashlee Young, 21, of Billings, Mont., classical adult; Carmen Lai, 17, of Las Vegas, classical senior (age 13 and over); and Abigail Varghese, 8, left, of Henderson, classical junior division (age 12 and Under). Prizes included $1,000 cash for the showmanship category, a $1,000 scholarship for classical adult and $500 scholarships for classical junior and senior winners. Competitors were judged on technical skill, artistic impression and audience appeal.
