Center fills important need
Local Boys & Girls Club reopens after $3 million renovation

About 100 children stood quietly under the hot afternoon sun on April 9, listening to Henderson Mayor James Gibson reminisce about learning to box at the Boys & Girls Clubs in Henderson.

They patiently waited as Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., was inducted into the Boys & Girls Clubs Alumnus Hall of Fame.

City makes leadership change
Mark Calhoun named interim city manager after Mary Kay Peck fired

After more than an hour of listing complaints about Henderson's first female city manager, the City Council unanimously voted to fire her at the April 14 meeting.

Mary Kay Peck spent 18 months as city manager, and her attorney, Norman Kirshman, said at the meeting that she was never given an employee evaluation, even though she had requested one.
