CAREER FAIR SET FOR UNLV STUDENTS AND ALUMNI

UNLV Career Services will host a career fair for students of all majors and UNLV alumni from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 26 at the Thomas & Mack Center Concourse, 7000 E. Russell Road.

Registration is open through Feb. 25 for employers who would like to have a booth at the career fair.

TAKE A COMMUNITY COOKING CLASS AT LE CORDON BLEU

Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Las Vegas, 1451 Center Crossing Road, offers cooking classes to the community from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on select dates. On March 7, students can take an Italian comfort food course, and March 21 will cover Latin cooking. Cost varies per class, but ranges from $125 to $150 and includes a continental breakfast and lunch.

Grant writing class coming in march

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension will offer the Nuts and Bolts of Grant Writing from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 11 and April 22 at the Lifelong Learning Center, 8050 Paradise Road. Cost is $5. To register, call 257-5502.

BUILD-A-BEAR LOOKING FOR HUGGABLE HEROES

Build-A-Bear Workshop is looking for entries for its 2009 Huggable Heroes class.

Children ages 7 to 18 who are dedicated to making the world a better place can be nominated. Entry forms are available at www.buildabear.com/huggableheroes. The deadline is Feb. 27.

Winners will receive a $7,500 educational scholarship and a $2,500 donation to a charity of their choice.

INSTITUTE HAS SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR 10 STUDENTS

The Medical Skills for Life Institute is offering scholarships to the first 10 students who enroll and are accepted by March 2.

VISION SOURCE OFFERS SCHOLARSHIPS

Applications for Vision Source Las Vegas' See the Change scholarship are available at www.visionsourcevegas.com, through the Clark County School District or at any one of the 11 Vision Source offices. The company is giving away three $1,000 awards. Scholarship recipients must be students intending to pursue a degree in a health-, medicine- or science-related field in fall 2009 at a four-year college or university. Applications must be received in person at a local Vision Source office no later than March 20.

VEGAS PBS SPONSORING WRITING CONTEST

Vegas PBS is accepting entries for its 15th annual Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest. The contest is open to children in kindergarten through third grade and requires them to write and illustrate a short story of their own.

All entries must be submitted to Vegas PBS by April 3 at 5 p.m. For additional information and entry forms, visit www.vegaspbs.org.

Homework Hotline is open from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The program offers assistance to students with math problems or any other subject. Students should call 799-5111 to access the hot line.
