MEET THE CANDIDATES: Shari Buck
Candidate for North Las Vegas Mayor
Ward 4 councilwoman Shari Buck was born and raised in North Las Vegas.
A homemaker for the past 25 years, Buck worked intermittently as a substitute teacher for the Clark County School District after graduating with a bachelor's degree in English from Brigham Young University in 1978. She also completed the Harvard University Program for Senior Executives at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Buck was elected to the North Las Vegas City Council in 1999. Buck said that her experience and skill as a problem solver qualify her for the mayoral seat.
"An optimistic, hopeful person is needed in leadership right now," she said. "I have a longterm vision for our city."
She is a member of the Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition and serves as chairwoman of the Southern Nevada Water Authority Board. Buck has served on the North Las Vegas Library District Board of Trustees and the Colorado River Commission. She also is a member of the Clark County Regional Flood Control District Citizens Advisory Committee.
She is a former member of the North Las Vegas Library District Board of Trustees and a former member of the Colorado River Commission.
Buck is married and has four children.
