Grocery event helps seniors stock up on nutritious fare
By JACK BULAVSKY
SPECIAL TO VIEW
Once a month, Henrietta Williams goes to Jimmy's Cheyenne Market for a little shopping. She'll buy whatever she wants, but primarily she's there for the $25.99 meat package that may include turkey wings, one whole chicken, several pounds of fish, some beef sirloin steaks, bunches of greens and a large watermelon. In the months to come, the package might contain lamb chops, pork shoulder, and chuck roast with corn and peaches.
Not bad for $25.99.

ART GOMEZ:
Playing up the senses
Blind Center teacher passes along his passion for the guitar
By VALERIE MILLER
SPECIAL TO VIEW
Art Gomez began his career when his classmates were still going to high school dances. At the ripe old age of 17, the guitar enthusiast began teaching the instrument to Las Vegans. And now, 35 years later, he is helping some people learn to play who never thought they could.
Gomez, 52, has spent about four years donating his time to the Blind Center of Nevada. Once a week, the music teacher, who was born and raised in Las Vegas, holds a class at the facility at 1001 N. Bruce St. to give those visually impaired students a chance to learn something even many sighted individuals find challenging.
