There's something undeniably fulfilling about experiencing a film for the first time on the big screen.
That is why Regal Cinemas has partnered with Station Casinos to bring a summertime movie classics series to the valley.
Flashback Features will feature 16 flicks from Hollywood's golden age of motion pictures and even more modern classics.
Fiesta Henderson, Texas Station and Aliante Station will show different flicks beginning at 6:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays through mid-July. Tickets are $5.
The series, which began May 25, will feature classics such as "Jaws," "Rebel Without a Cause" and "Breakfast at Tiffany's."
Lori Nelson, Station Casinos director of corporate communications, said the partnership was formed in an effort to create a fun, inexpensive way for families to find entertainment this summer.
"We're very excited to be a part of this," she said. "I think a lot of the appeal of viewing movies on the big screen is generational. I have a friend who saw 'Grease' for the first time as a small girl in a movie theater. She's told me she is very excited that her daughter can now also experience it that way."
According to Robbie Arrington, marketing manager for Regal Entertainment Group, experimentation with the series began several years ago in Orange County, Calif.
"We brought back popular, older movies such as 'Rocky' and 'Goonies,' " Arrington said. "The cult-type movies are very popular, and we had great success with it."
The campaign to bring this classic movie movement to various regions of the country began approximately four years ago, and according to Arrington, Regal officials in each market tend to mold the events to meet the needs of the area.
The series was tested earlier this year at Aliante Station with the showing of "Robin Hood" and "Viva Las Vegas," both of which, according to Nelson, were considered a success.
"It was that initial run that prompted this partnership to get a summer series going for this year," she said. "We think the audience for these events will continue to grow, and as more people become interested in what's going on, new moviegoers will begin to join in the fun."
Arrington said that watching a movie on the silver screen is an entirely different experience than sitting in front of your television.
"We have found that audiences love the interaction that takes place," he said. "Not just waiting for the lights to go down, but the joy of sharing that experience with other movie lovers."
Arrington said these classics were made for the big screen and were meant to be viewed in that manner.
"Any film crew will tell you that," he said. "Movies are meant to be a communal experience. And that's what we are providing."
