Excavators made their first dig near the corner of South Rainbow Boulevard and West Windmill Lane, Thursday, as the first apparent sign of a future library. The groundbreaking means those in the southwest Las Vegas area soon will have books, computer labs, an art gallery and a 300-seat auditorium in their backyard.

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District recently secured the funding for the $49 million library. It is slated to open in summer 2011 as the district's 25th library.
