PICK OF THE WEEK: MOLLIE'S KOUNTRY KAFE

The corner of North Jones Boulevard and Cheyenne Avenue isn't exactly country anymore, but this café (or Kafe) has a menu that is reminiscent of home-cooked, country food. Breakfasts served throughout the day are popular and include omelets with a choice of home fries, sliced tomatoes, fruit or cottage cheese and toast. House specials include eggs Benedict, Kountry fried steak and eggs and the Lumberjack (three hotcakes, three eggs, four bacon or link sausages and home fries). The Hobo Skillet is sausage, onions, potatoes and cheese topped with three eggs and biscuit and gravy. Lunch items include hamburgers, grilled cheese, chili cheese dog, BLT, patty melt, Philly beef melt, hot turkey or beef open-face sandwich and tuna melt. Low-carb selections include ground beef steak, sliced roast beef or turkey breast served on lettuce with cottage cheese and a hard-boiled egg. There are salads (chef, taco and Cobb), along with soups made daily and house chili with beans, cheese and onion. Mollie's is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.

Chicago Cactus Club, 4061 N. Rancho Drive 655-2582 Hours: Club is open 24 hours daily; kitchen is open 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. The 16-inch Chicago-style pizza comes with one pitcher of domestic draft beer or choice of soda. Ground sirloin hamburgers include Illinois (bacon and Swiss), Indiana (grilled sweet peppers), Wisconsin (grilled onions and cheddar) and Chicago burger with bacon, barbecue sauce, cheddar cheese and onion rings. Breakfast begins with three-egg omelets, biscuits with sausage and gravy and Farmer's Go Bowls, a two-egg scramble with bacon, sausage, vegetables and cheddar cheese on a bed of hash browns.

Rancho Drive 645-8844 Hours: Daily, 24 hours Goal Line Gourmet Pizzas include white, four cheese, chicken alfredo, spinach and New York Delight (pepperoni, sausage, mushroom, onion and mozzarella). There also are super-stuffed pizzas, such as the vegetarian with sautéed broccoli, mushrooms, tomatoes, mozzarella and marinara, along with strombolis and calzones.

Lino's, 5601 N. Mark Rich's New York Pizza and Pasta, 7930 W. Memphis Championship Barbecue, 4379 Las Vegas Blvd. North 644-0000 Hours: Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Chef Mike Mills's Magic Dust, a combination of 18 spices, goes on beef, pork or fish. Side dishes include deep fried dill pickles.

Montana Meat Company, 6371 Centennial Center Blvd. 396-7615 Hours: Daily, 24 hours Steaks include a seven or 10-ounce filet mignon, top sirloin, 20-ounce t-bone and 20-ounce bone-in rib eye. Other featured entrees are beef liver with grilled onions, pork chops, short ribs in barbecue sauce, pot roast, and the Montana Combo (sirloin with two jumbo shrimp). All are served with vegetables and a choice of mashed potatoes, baked potato, rice, steak fries or onion rings.

Mount Charleston Lodge, 1200 Old Park Road 872-5408 Hours: Daily, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. There are soups and salads, brick oven pizzas and the signature "with or without beans" Mountain Chili. Popular grilled burgers are Paul Bunyan, salmon, elk, buffalo and portobella mushroom. Among the sandwiches are Caesar steak (marinated top sirloin on grilled garlic Texas toast with sautéed mushrooms and provolone), Mountain club, French dip, shrimp panini and meatball parmigiana.

Pancit Express, 7501 N. Cimarron Road 463-0383 Hours: Monday through Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pancit is a type of noodle, and it's cooked several different ways here, along with lumpia -- appetizer-sized dumplings -- spicy garlic eggplant, curry chicken and Singapore-style pork loin. Catering also is a specialty service, with a separate catering menu including meats by the pound and appetizers in large quantities.

Pin Kaow, 1974 N. Rainbow Blvd. 638-2746 Hours: Daily, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Assorted entrees, such as Mongolian, cashew nut with Thai chili sauce, sweet and sour, garlic and spicy eggplant, can be made with chicken, beef, pork, tofu or shrimp. The same can be said for various noodle dishes (stir-fried soft yellow, silver or flat rice) and vegetables, including Chinese broccoli, snow peas and bean sprouts.

PT's Gold, 2135 E. Centennial Parkway 399-1856 Hours: Daily, 24 hours Popular items include PT's wings, golden fingers, and popcorn shrimp available in 20 different sauces ranging from double baked Cajun to spicy Thai peanut. Other favorites are four bite-sized cheeseburgers topped with grilled onions, popcorn chicken pizza, open-faced turkey sandwich, bowl of chili, and French dip on an Amoroso roll with beer-battered onion rings and creamed horseradish.

Que Mas Mexican Grill, Surf City Bar, 1435 W. Craig Road 633-4234 Hours: Daily, 24 hours Menu highlights are carne asada with cheese enchilada, chile Colorado, jumbo shrimp tacos, sizzling enchiladas, double-decker enchiladas (three corn tortillas stacked on top of each other with chicken and shredded beef), chimichangas, flautas, steak taco a la Mexico City (open face), tostadas and burritos such as the seafood with lobster, sea bass and shrimp.

Red Brick Pizza, 6584 N. Decatur Blvd. 438-4949 Hours: Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fire-roasted gourmet pizzas are baked in a red brick hearth at 1,000 degrees ensuring a crisp, golden crust. They become gourmet because you get to select your toppings (anchovies, Canadian-style bacon, ground beef, ham, Italian sausage, salami and Thai chicken), your vegetables (artichoke hearts, black olives, diced cashews, peppercinis and roasted garlic), your crust (parmesan garlic, sun-dried tomato basil, pesto parmesan or everything) and your sauce (red, white, olive oil with garlic, pesto, chipotle or roasted red pepper).

Roadrunner Saloon, 5990 Centennial Center Blvd. 309-6015 Hours: Daily, 24 hours BBQ Cedar Plank Roasted Salmon, served with chile-cheese grits and roasted corn succotash; Dr. Pepper Marinated Steak Tacos, served with mustard butter, rice and beans; and oven-baked macaroni and cheese.

Sammy's Woodfired Pizza, 7160 N. Durango Drive 365-7777 Hours: Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Pizzas include five-cheese, classic pepperoni, artichoke and barbecued chicken. Other entrees include wild mushroom risotto, grilled London broil and a half rotisserie chicken. Popular salads are the chopped chicken salad, Chinese chicken salad (Napa cabbage, bok choy, carrots, bell peppers, sesame sees, cilantro, scallions, Mandarin oranges) and a Greek salad covered with whole kalamata olives.

Also manilla clams steamed with garlic, tomatoes, onions and white wine, peel-and-eat shrimp, shrimp stuffed with crab and baked in butter, crab cakes, po boy with choice of fried oysters or shrimp, hot dungeness crab with drawn butter or cold with dijon sauce, blackened sea scallops, seafood bisque, seafood Louie, Cajun jambalaya, seafood tacos with red pepper dressing and seared cabbage, and gumbo, the hearty seafood stew with crab, shrimp, chicken, andouille sausage, and okra over white rice.

Sophia's Pizza & Subs, 2040 E. Craig Road 839-9112 Hours: Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pizza dough is made with Bouncer flour, and each pizza is topped with handmade pizza sauce, premium pizza toppings and Grande cheese. Create your own from a variety of toppings or order the already-famous pepperoni, vegetarian, Hawaiian or Supreme (sausage, pepperoni, mushroom, green pepper and black olive).

Sunrise Pizza, 4324 W. Surf City Bar & Grill, 1435 W. Craig Road 633-4234 Hours: Daily, 24 hours Player's Lunch offered to anyone who spends $20 on gaming. Tacos cost $1 after 8 p.m.

Sushi Loca, 6181 Centennial Center Blvd. 558-5622 Hours: Monday through Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Sunday, 12:30 to 10 p.m. Fresh fish is served in a variety of ways: raw as sashimi and in cut rolls (the Jackpot roll is loaded with tempura shrimp) and hand rolls, and in the more traditional cooked form (black cod cooked in miso broth is popular). The menu also includes salad options, noodles and more.

Teriyaki Madness, 725 W. Craig Road, Suite 132 341-8623 Hours: Monday through Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Sunday, 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Favorite selections are chicken, beef or pork teriyaki and chicken katsu and spicy chicken. Other entrees are stir-fried vegetables with chicken, beef, pork or tofu, yakisoba (stir-fried soft noodles) with chicken, pork or beef, low-carb chicken or beef and chicken salad. Town Center Lounge II, 2992 W. Cheyenne Ave. 646-1131 Hours: Daily, 24 hours USDA Choice ground sirloin hamburgers come with a choice of french fries, coleslaw, potato salad or cottage cheese and include patty melt, mushroom with Swiss, Bayou with Cajun spices and blue cheese crumbles, and Paisano, with sautéed peppers, onions, mozzarella and marinara sauce. Viva Zapata's, 3826 E. Craig Road 643-8888 Hours: Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Enchiladas are prepared in olive oil; no lard is ever used. Dinners are served with soup, rice, beans and flour tortillas, and among the entrees are a variety of steak, chicken, fish and pork dishes. Lunch is divided into four price categories: $8.25, $9.25, $10.25 and $11.25. Included in these categories (the more you pay, the more you get) are beef or chicken chimichangas, taco salad, beef and been burrito, cheese enchilada and beef taco, chile verde, steak ranchero and chicken amador.

Waverly's Steak House, Cannery, 2121 E. Craig Road 507-5700 Hours: Wednesday and Thursday, 5 to 9:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 5 to 10 p.m.; Sunday brunch, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dinner features the cowboy rib-eye steak, a two-pound, bone-in rib-eye served with chili onion rings; New York steak and scampi; and veal (marsala, Oscar or picatta). Other specialties are striped sea bass with lump crab and roasted corn, and chicken Chamberlain, sautéed chicken breast with smoked bacon, mushrooms and pearl onions.

Yoko Sushi, 2351 N. Rainbow Blvd. 646-9656 Hours: Daily, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. All-you-can-eat sushi lunch is $21.95 and dinner is $24.95. The list includes tuna, salmon, halibut, red snapper, mackerel, freshwater eel, baby octopus, sea urchin, surf clam, scallop, squid, albacore, sarada lobster, and flying fish egg. The menu also features calamari steak, spicy Korean pork, Korean short ribs, marinated black cod, and two dozen maki rolls, including Alaska, Dragon and Spider.

Zaba's Mexican Grill, 5630 N. Durango Drive 836-9222 Hours: Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Sunday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Homemade salsas and guacamole are made daily and all beef is USDA Choice sirloin. The menu includes grilled chicken, steak or vegetarian (diced potatoes, black beans, fajita mix, sour cream, cheese and lettuce) burritos. Zaba Bowls are burritos without the tortilla. There also are soft flour, soft corn or crispy corn tacos, and fish tacos are made with cod. Salad bowls start with romaine lettuce and you add chicken, steak or shredded beef, black or pinto beans, salsas, sour cream, cheese and guacamole.
