Dr. Sigfrid A. Muller of Las Vegas received the Castellani-Reiss Award from the International Society of Dermatology during its 10th International Congress of Dermatology meeting in Prague, Czech Republic, last month.

Since 1974, the award has been given out every five years to an International Society of Dermatology member who has shown exceptional service in the advancement of the study of international dermatology and for services to humanity.

Muller, who is the eighth recipient of the award and is serving as interim president of the society, received it for his dedication to international education.

Jenifer Fournier, pastry chef at Alex and Stratta at Wynn Las Vegas, was named one of the 10 best pastry chefs in America by Dessert Professional magazine.

Fournier was honored at an event June 8 at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York. After the event, she served peach cylinders and vanilla creme fraiche with compressed sangria peaches. The dessert will be featured in the August issue of the magazine.

This is the second year in a row that Fournier has been selected by the magazine.

The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars of the Smithsonian Institution presented the Woodrow Wilson Award for Public Service to Andre Agassi and Stefanie Graf and the Woodrow Wilson Award for Corporate Citizenship to Larry and Camille Ruvo on May 27.

Larry Ruvo is the senior managing director of Southern Wine & Spirits of Nevada, and his wife, Camille, is co-founder of the Keep Memory Alive Foundation.

Agassi is founder of the Andre Agassi Foundation, and his wife, Graf, is founder of Children for Tomorrow. Both are retired tennis champions.

Maria Para-Sandoval, a member of United Way of Southern Nevada, received the National Service Awards Committee's 2009 AmeriCorps Member of the Year award in May.

Para-Sandoval was selected for her service as a volunteer liaison at the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada where she helped recruit 75 new volunteers to provide pro bono legal services.
