INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY SITE PLAN REVIEW APPROVED

Members of the North Las Vegas Planning Commission during the June 24 meeting approved an application for a site plan review in a general industrial district to allow an industrial development. The property is located at the northeast corner of Beesley Drive and Tropical Parkway.

AMENDMENT GRANTED FOR SPECIAL USE PERMIT

During the June 24 meeting, members of the North Las Vegas Planning Commission approved an application submitted by the Clark County School District for an amendment to a previously approved special use permit in a public/semi-public district to amend a condition requiring a meandering sidewalk. The property is located at the northeast corner of Commerce Street and Rome Boulevard.

CITY SEEKS APPLICANTS FOR WARD 4 SEAT

The city of North Las Vegas will be accepting applications for the Ward 4 council seat, to be vacated by Mayor-Elect Shari Buck on July 1.

To qualify for the seat, applicants must be eligible to register to vote, be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years of age with no felony convictions. Applicants must be residents of North Las Vegas City Council Ward 4 for at least 30 days prior to June 30.

Applications also are available at the North Las Vegas City Clerk's Office, 2200 Civic Center Drive.

Applications must be delivered in person to the city clerk's Office by 5 p.m. on today. City council members will review the applications and make the appointment at the city Council meeting July 15.

NEW AERIAL GALLERY BANNERS DISPLAYED DOWNTOWN

A series of 24 hand-painted images commissioned by the Las Vegas Arts Commission, entitled "Desert Transplants," by artist Dennis Angel are now displayed outdoors in the city of Las Vegas Aerial Gallery downtown along Las Vegas Boulevard.

The Aerial Gallery is a public art "streetscape enhancement" project designed to bring more visibility to the arts downtown.

The project features a mile-long banner display on six poles along the median of Las Vegas Boulevard from Charleston Boulevard north to Stewart Avenue. Streetlights on the poles illuminate the 3-foot-by-8-foot banners at night.

The work will be on display through January 2010.

MUSEUM EXTENDS HOURS FOR FIRST FRIDAY

Lied Discovery Children's Museum, 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North, will open at 10 a.m. and stay open until 9 p.m. the first Friday of July, August and September as part of the Summer Nights at Lied Discovery Children's Museum program.

General admission is $8 for adults, $7 for children ages 1 to 17, and free for children under 1. Regular summer operating hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

GROUP AIMS TO COLLECT CANS TO HELP ANIMALS

Paws to Recycle is working to collect 1 million aluminum cans a month to raise money to help local no-kill animal shelters. Residents can drop off their empty cans, and Paws to Recycle will pick them up and exchange them for cash that will be used to support spay and neuter programs and other services at animal shelters.

There are two drop-off locations: Rainbow Animal Hospital, 244 S. Rainbow Blvd., south of Westcliff Drive; and A Dog's Best Friend grooming, 4241 W. Charleston Blvd., east of Arville Street. Paws to Recycle is seeking additional veterinarian's offices and groomers to serve as drop-off locations for cans. For more information, call 217-2319.

TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION ANNOUNCES ROUTE CHANGES

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada was scheduled to make a number of service changes to its transit routes effective June 28.

Changes will include frequency adjustments, routing changes and efficiency improvements. Riders can view the changes online at rtcsnv.com or by viewing the June 2009 Transit Guide, available at all transportation commission facilities and at a number of local retailers.
